Virgin’s iPad Magazine May Reinvent An Industry
When I heard about the first iPad only magazine, I knew it had huge potential.
The reason a lot of traditional print publications are struggling online and on mobile is because MOVING content from where it was originally intended to be distributed is really hard.
Reading the newspaper is not good for TV or Radio. Radio stories don’t work on TV. And print publications don’t thrive online unless they are reinvented.
However, online publications that were started for the web thrive there. See Mashable, Daily Beast, Huffington Post.
And an iPad only magazine, as well as NewsCorp’s soon to launch iPad only newspaper, will thrive on the iPad.
They are different ecosystems with different challenges and different advantages.
Also, the 150 million iTunes accounts plugged into credit cards and use to buying quality apps at the spur of the moment will not hurt.
The ability to make the graphics very engaging and interactive (which Project does very well) also will not hurt.
And being on the iPad, a very exclusive, prestigious, and closed environment should all supply a soft landing pad for these first-of-their-kind iPad publications.
Have you gotten to try out Project for the iPad yet?
